Illegal Migration And American Relationships

If you are like most Americans, you know many people who have lost friends over the issue of illegal migration. Even more sadly, the numbers may include your own parents and siblings. The obvious reason for the breakdown is strong feelings on both sides of the issue. But strong feelings have existed on that and other issues for ages without producing such an extreme effect. So, what has been different about this issue?

Peter Schweizer has answered this question with impressive detail in his recent book, The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon. Here are the points I have found most salient:

The weaponization began In April 1980, when Fidel Castro sent what was considered a “rescue mission” but was instead an invasion. The so-called “rescuers” included men “taken from prison cells, insane asylums, or street corners.”

Also in the 1980s, “The illegal immigrant sanctuary movement emerged as a group of churches pledged to protect immigrants entering the United States from war-torn [countries].”

In July 1990 “dozens of communists, radicals, guerrillas, and even drug traffickers” attended the Sao Paulo Forum, which “welcomed radical elements within the Catholic Church.”‘ The “leaders of liberation theology fused Marxism and the rejection of Western Culture into Catholic social teaching.”

In February 1996, Miguel Vega, a Catholic priest joined a group founded by Saul Alinsky “to align religious groups with activist goals.” Father Vega met with vice President Al Gore and later asked him for more rapid approval of applications for citizenship. President Clinton then approved the request, and the result was that “a stunning 1.2 million citizens were sworn during the 1996 election year.” That was three times the [previous number], and many of them were not carefully vetted. This rapid approval approach was reportedly taken by both Presidents Obama and Biden.

In 2016, while the U.S. presidential election was underway, Pope Francis stated, “Immigration is a right, a right that is in the Sacred Scripture.” On other occasions, he said, “Let everyone come,” called turning away migrants a “grave sin” against God, claimed that “our theology is a theology of migrants,” and termed mass migration “a lengthy process that aims to shape societies and cultures.” Pope Francis’ blatant support of illegal immigration, together with similar support from many others in the Catholic hierarchy, explain Peter Schweizer’s assertion that “The Catholic Church has played a major role with foreign governments and movements to precipitate the greatest subversive act in American history.”

In 2023 Mexico began a mass migration into the US to “reclaim” the “territory” taken from them. The migration was aimed to “go deep into the culture, transforming the value system, or into the social structure, transforming the distribution of power.” A Mexican official was also “sent to stoke resistance to Trump in the United States, meeting with migrants legal and illegal as well as progressive activist groups.” He also declared, “Our committees are on the front line to battle in these moments of civil resistance.”

During the Biden years, illegal migrants came from many countries around the world, including China, Venezuela, Haiti, Uzbekistan, Libya, and India, for a total of near 20 million uninvited people. Moreover, during his time, the incomes of human smugglers swelled from $500 million to $13 billion.

So far, we have noted Schweizer’s identification of some significant ways illegal migration has harmed American relationships. More ways are explained in The Invisible Coup. I will leave readers to pursue that knowledge in the book.

Let’s turn now to other influences that, though not the focus of his book, parallel it and increase the harm being done.

Many teachers no longer teach students how to compare conflicting ideas, think critically about each, reject error and embrace truth. Instead, they tell students what to think–in other words to brainwash them with their own personal beliefs. In some cases, teachers deliberately choose error over truth, but in other cases they too have been so conditioned to follow their emotions or news sources that they can no longer separate truth from error.

Many journalists have abandoned the traditional code of ethics that guided them to separate facts from their own personal opinions. To make matters worse, those personal opinions are not really theirs, but instead reflect the brainwashing that substituted for training in thinking.

Haters of the United States, notably illegal immigrants, as Schweizer noted, aim to undermine the mutual respect, trust, and love America is built upon. To accomplish this, they attack the country’s traditional values and principles so that children will reject their parents’ beliefs and refuse their guidance. They also, and more boldly, seek to gain positions in city, state, and federal governments, including those in the court systems. This strategy enables them to go beyond undermining Americanism and replace it with Socialism and Communism.

We began by considering why illegal migration has impacted American more powerfully than other differences of viewpoint ever have; indeed, powerfully enough to threaten the very destruction of our country.

The answer to that earlier question as simple as it is frightening.

For several generations our country’s values and principles have been attacked by the leaders of Cuba and Mexico; Catholic priests, bishops, and a Pope who support liberation theology, open borders, and sanctuary cities; hordes of illegal migrants, many of whom have poisoned American citizens and raped or killed American children; and three U.S. President—Clinton, Obama, and Biden. In addition, legions of educators, journalists, and haters of America have joined the attackers.

When we consider that all of the views these individuals or groups now champion are in direct opposition to the views they and their ancestors previously affirmed, we will no longer wonder why many of us have lost friends and family members over the issue of illegal migration. We may, however, wonder how best to regain our sanity.
